Default question about exhaust size?

i'm gonna be putting a b16 into my eg..it has like close to 2 inch piping right now. I've researched and learnt that too big of a piping wouldn't create enough back pressure and thus you'll have a lose of power. 2.25" should be enough but this is where i get confused, i also learnt that you should install the piping with future modding in mind like if you might need 2.5" later on, i plan on doing b20 vtec bottom end...but first i'm gonna install the b16 and do head work...then bottom end. What size piping should i get installed? would 2.25" be sufficient for a b20 vtec car built for the street and some track use? also is there a disadvantage to using a muffler with a 2.25" inlet if u're running 2.5" piping? just wanted to know before i bought a specific muffler. Thanks in advance guys

If your planning to build the engine in the future go with 2.5".

Why would you want backpressure?

No, I think YOU need to read that thread...

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by that thread you posted &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Urban Myth: "Hondas need backpressure" ... You need the combination of the least positive (close to zero) backpressure possible with the highest gas velocity achievable to create performance
</TD></TR></TABLE>

Do not confuse backpressure with velocity.

IF you open the pipes up to much you lose velocity of the exhaust....thus loosing torque..but gaining a little horsepower..Now if you dont open enuf you loose horsepower but keep or drop some torque..I think you should go with the 2.5 its good all around..till you go turbo...

i think that's exactly what i'll do.i was worried i would have a problem with the b16 with 2.5" piping but if it's gonna be fine, then i might as well do it to 2.5 .

so in other words 2.5" would be better for velocity since backpressure is a myth?

I have 2.5" with a B18C, I don't see any problem with low end torque. I can get everywhere I need to through traffic shifting under 2,500rpm.

Yeah, explain why if you gain velocity through a large exhaust, you lose torque. You put it into terms like it should be obvious. I don't buy that you need a certain amount of backpressure or you lose "torque"
