Default putting cams back in

ok so basically this is my first time doing a head gasket and ive got everything back in but the cams, when i put them in they dont line up like they did when i removed them i took them out with the engine at TDC and now they dont want to go back in the same way, i made sure that i have the cams on the right side they just don't want to go in right.

any suggestions?

b18 sorry there stock cams and yes its because the headgasket, this is my first time taking apart the head so i kinda got into to deep for the first time i guess, anyways i made sure it was at tdc or what i thought was tdc, the spoke on the cam gears both said up so i figured that was tdc now the exhaust side is pointed up but the intake side is at about 2 o'clock, a guy at work told me to try turning the crankshaft a little to see if it i can get it to line up

any other thoughts before i go and try this?

You shouldn't be touching the crank. Actually, why is the timing belt back on?! The belt should be off still. You need to leave the crank alone and turn each cam manually with a ratchet until both cam gears are at the correct TDC mark.

the cams wont set in right at tdc without turning the cams, set the cams in how they set flat, put ur cam caps on and tighten them, there will be a hole in each cam cap by the cam gear get a wrench and turn the camtill it lined up and then stick a punch or drill bit in the hole on the caps once u got he cams locked put hte belt on set ur tensoiner , pull the punch or bits out of the caps and rotate the engine a few revolutions and set back at tdc if all ur marks are good put the rest back together and ur done

Unlock and loosen all of the tappets when putting the cam in. It'll keep the rocker arms from being loaded by the valve springs. This will make it easier to set the cam in time with the crankshaft phasing.

Place the cam into the head with the keyways facing up and then install the cam caps (and rails if necessary).
