Push starting with an ignition kill installed…..possible?
Just a thought….
If you had a kill on your ignition, and somebody tried to push start it, the kill wouldn't be doing anything right? Since I've never done it and don't know, how hard is it to push start a newer car with a hydraulic transmission (i.e. a 99 B18C5)? I realize these are probably stupid questions but I'd like to know before my electrical system goes under the knife this weekend.
TIA!
simple to push start the car (not that I know about the kill switch)
even a newer car is easy to puch start, you just need a lot of muscle or a hill.
get the car moving pretty well, in neutral, then slap it in gear, let out the clutch turn the key, and vavoom yer set to go.
depending on how the kill is wired, you may not be able to push start it.

If it is just a starter kill, you could push start it. If it kills the spark in the ignition, you can't push start it.
depends on what type of ingition kill you are talking about.
if you are talking about a cheap battery cutoff, then yes, you could pushstart.
but if it's a properly installed, good battery cutoff (which would cut all power to the engine), then no, you couldn't pushstart it.

What does a battery have to do with push starting? You can push start a car with a dead battery.

u need the battery to keep the car running. Ive tried it before when my battery died and the car wouldnt start even with a push start.

alternator is supplying the power.

Just to clarify guys, I tried it out this weekend. Best bet was to kill the ignition, NOT the starter. It'll turn over but won't start, not even a push start.
