what is the purpose of putting the motor to TDC when you are going to take off the head??? i mean wouldnt u have to reset it all to TDC anyways??

 

the reason you want to set the head and the cams at tdc is to align everything up incase you move something which can cause valve damage. bent valves

so how is it or how do u put the engine at tdc how do u know wich cylinder to put it up or something I replace pistons 2 days ago and I'am not sure if the engine is aligned with the cams

there is a mark on the crank that you line up to put the number 4 and 1 pistons at the top most point, and there are 2 marks on your cam gears (if its a DOHC) that you line up. walla

 

there should be hash marks on the crank pulley and on the plastic timing belt cover theres another mark. also on the cam it should say top and hte hash marks on the cam gear should be leveled with the head. becarefull if you dont know how to i suggest rtfb.

i found out

theres a white mark on the crank pull thats away from a bundle of 3 marks, the white one is TDC

 

engine is a b18c1

or stick a long extention down the # 1 or 4 spark plug hole and wait till it goes to the highest piont !
