problems adjusting TPS
hello, i'm kind of a newb to mechanics so here it goes...
I purchased a "JDM B16A" TPS for my B17a1 because mine was broken. I had been driving the car a couple days without a TPS. I received the B16A TPS in the mail today, installed it, and tried to adjust it. I hook up the voltmeter to the harness to the TPS, and it says .038. I try to move the TPS and it stays at .038! What am I doing wrong? The harness is not supposed to be plugged into the TPS while doing this, correct? I know its kind of a dumb question, but I don't know. I can't get a reading with the harness plugged into it, so I figured that was how. The voltage doesn't even move when I open the throttle up all the way.
Any input would be much appreciated! The car runs decent at low end, but when the RPMs get up, it falls on its nose. I think that is an issue with the spark plugs though, I think from running with a TPS I messed up the spark plugs pretty good. I will buy new spark plugs when I figure out the TPS!

i just found that guide..for anyone needing to do this..I was getting a reading off the harness, and by the looks of that article you need to get a reading of the TPS itself. oops!

Heh yeh I know that now. And now that the sensor is calbirated, the car is really misfiring! I am pretty sure the plugs are fouled so bad that they need to be replaced. My biggest prob now is I have a dang coolent leak
hehe i know it just didn't seem right to me because there was no where to put the voltmeter, until i figured to use a paper clip lol...
code 7 was my only code, and since i replaced the TPS and reset the computer, no code has come up.
thanks, i am pretty sure it is coming from the heater hose that goes into the firewall..and it is a bitch to get off! is there some sort of trick to it? I got the clamp down pretty far, but it seems to be stuck inside the firewall pretty good with a rubber gasket or something.
also, what kind of coolant do you run? i'm used to using dex cool lol. i just got in the honda game.
lastly, i need new spark plugs. i believe them to be fouled out..I am running NGK iridium..too bad they fouled out cuz they were pretty expensive. i think i'm just going to get the 1.99 NGKs next time, then get better ones in the future. I just want to get this thing running right.

first off, just use ngks.
second use the green (ethylene glycol).
third , make sure you got the clamp loose, and past the nipple that is your heater core inside the vehicle. They do make a tool that is only a few bucks that makes removing hoses easier, sometimes a screwdriver is just as easy though. use a twisting motion (not a pulling) to break the hose loose then pull it of. dont get too aggresive with it or you will be pulling the dash to install a new heater core.

Yeah, get the copper NGK plugs.....BK....whatever.
What he said will work on that hose. Twist it and slide something small into it. All else fails, cut it and get another one if you can't get it off. They are fairly cheap.

Put new plugs in, and fixed the hose.
Car smokes at idle it smells like it is burning, or not burning way too much gas. It is running very rich. No check engine lights, but the wire harness has been hacked so something could possibly not be hooked up. Anyway, one of my mechanics suggested someone may have put bigger injectors in the car and cause it to run like this.
I am running out of options, I can't figure out what the problem is. Any suggestions?
Thank you!

So does the car run well now and just seems like it is running rich or does it run bad, blow black smoke on accel, sting your eyes in the drive thru? I see smokes at idle, White Or Black smoke? Are all the injectors pulsing/ working when running? You can use a long screwdriver - Put the tip against the metal cylindrical portion of each fuel injector then put the handle end against your ear until you close your ear you should hear each injector "clicking" Do they all sound the same? More info please.
