Re: Power steering belt Trick?
***update. I changed the belt topped off the fluid and the bastard still sqeaks!! but it's very inconsistant...only on initial start up, then it goes away and on really cold days it's here and there. Sometimes between shifts, sometimes when slowing down, it's never constant...any ideas what else could be making it sqeak? Help please....

WORKING FOR A LOCAL DEALER i HAVE LEARNED TO ONLY USE OEM BELTS, AFTERMARKET BELTS ALWAYS SQUEAK AND ESPECIALLY THOSE GOOD YEAR GATORBACKS!!!

If you have an aftermarket pully you will need to have that belt so tight you could play it like a banjo. And if your using a Goodyear Gatorback you will always have noise. They never stop streaching, they will eventually break the cords inside the belt and then its really going to make noise.

im willing to bet that the alternator belt is not tight enough if you are still getting belt squeal on startup.
there is a 12mm nut on the top alternator bracket you loosen a little. stick a prybar between the bracket and alternator and pry the alternator back away from the engine to apply more tension.
its a tight fit and you will be fighting with it for a while to figure it out.
good luck.

I never had a problem with Gates belts squealing. I think you should double-check the tension on your alternator, PS, and AC belts, and also make sure that the pulleys are clean. It's been a while since I looked at it, but I believe the manual calls for somewhere around 1 cm of deflection. You don't want them ultra tight.
If you continue to have squealing problems, pick up a can of belt dressing and that should help, but the issue is almost certainly related to your belt tension.

Re: Power steering belt Trick?
My honda was squeaking when turning the wheel, so I turned it on, opened the hood, and heard the squek, and also noticed the belt would slip easily when turning (not tight enough).
Like an idiot, I thought I just had to replace the belt, without inspecting it for wear. SO I bought a new belt for like 30 bucks from Amazon, it was supposed to be OEM (Hondas are really strict about certain OEM parts), but they sent me a brand named Bando.
Sure enough after taking the belt out, my old belt was just fine, even after 130,000 miles, and all it was, was just a not tight enough belt.
Here's the pic again just in case that one dissapears off the server:
