Point of B16B?
better rod to stroke ratio equal even higher reving capabilites with less stress on the rods and crank and less side loading on the pistons which means less friction. Can anyone else add
to this??

8800 redline

But anyways, I'm seriously considering getting a Type R engine for my CRX. I did think about the CTR because of the lower rod ratio and piston speeds. The ITR's specs in that category freak me out a little bit. But, ultimately both engines are factory Honda engines and I imagine one lasts as long as the other. I do like high revs, though....
So what does everyone suggest? Is there anyone on this board that would take a B16B over a B18C5?

I just checked some sources and they state that a B16B redlines just as high as a B18C5.
The rod/ stroke ratios and piston speeds are valid reasons to destroke, but I assume Honda didn't do it becasue of those reasons. That would be implying that they didn't consider the B18C5 reliable enough.
If the redline is in fact the same....the only reason I can see for a B16B existing is for the racing series RagingAngel mentioned.

So you're saying that they took a great engine, modified it to be a less great engine and put it into the car because they didn't believe that the car was worthy of the great engine?
You know, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. VW did it with their Golf and Audis. Don't they have the same exact engines except one has something like 50 more horsepower than the other?

well...
civics always had 1.6's, so the ctr needed a 1.6
tegs always had 1.8's, so the itr needed a 1.8
doent seem that complicated to me?
i mean, why do you think honda didnt put b20's, or h22's in hatchbacks?
thats just not the way they were designed

its a CIVIC
a commuter car!
its not even a relative performance car like a teg.

I understand that they might have done it because they didn't want to one-up the ITR, but your logic is seriously flawed and I can't accept it as a reasonable explanation. The Civic is more than capable of having a 1.8 in it. In fact, I believe Europe offered a Civic with a 1.8
Hell, the new Civics have 1.7's in them, and I believe that the new Civic Si and Type R has a 2.0, despite the fact that Civics have always had 1.6's.......
My point is that Honda seemingly went out of their way to make a good engine less good. I don't believe cost was a factor (it's essentially the same engine). I'll buy the racing series explanation, though.

this lead to development and creation of hte whole B-series phenomena!!!!
to compare apples with oranges is folly, which is what is being done here.
