Depends on the manufacturer and material/skirt design

go with what the piston maker tells you. many 4032 pistons like mahle only need .003, others like arias use more. 99.9% of the time they know more than we do. just follow the instruction sheet.

CP's. They do call for .003. Ive gotten this block back from the machine shop like this. Im a little upset about it.

Probably gonna be throwing 18lbs or so to the block. looking fo 450 @ the wheels.

I would assume that .0015 over is gonna help me more than anything because of head expansion?

Keep in mind that the clearance will increase after the hone is broken in.

double check your paperwork, my cps call for .0035 , but I ve got the block bored out to .004 ....the more power you make the more room for expansion you need. I'm sure you'll be fine, you'll just have to let the car warm up a little longer before you take off in the morning

The hone essentially files the rings into a more perfect fit. As it does, the hone is polished by the rings. The best hone will wear down to a polished surface at about the same time the rings are properly seated- at the end of the break-in period. The optimum bore&hone will be a tiny bit too small and will reach the desired clearance once the motor is broken in.

The hotter the cylinders get, the more clearance you need. More power will of course make more heat as Srmofo pointed out, but so will higher rpm. How the extra power is created is a factor in how much more heat is generated.
