Default Piston ring orientation

In the diagram where is the engine front????
I have always used the engine snout or timing belt side as the front. If I clock the rings that way the top and second compression ring gap will line up the major and minor thrust sides. I never like lining gaps up with thrust sides.

And yes I know the rings rotate. I just want to set them correct for start up.

thanks

The front is the timing belt side.

Use the above or the Honda manual diagram. You never want a comp ring gap on a thrust face, especially the top ring on the exhaust thrust face

After a little research it looks like the diagram showing "the front" is actually the exhaust side. ??????
