Default Pinging at 1/4 throttle

How do I get rid of this annoying pinging? Its only at 1/4 throttle. My motor is a d16y7 with AEM CAI and Mugen Twin Loop exhaust, those are my only mods. I've searched and alot of responses was to retard the timing. How do I go about this without a timing light? And will it affect performance? Also, I'm runnin' 93 octane now and its still pinging. TIA

hmm, shouldn't be pinging with those mods. 93 octane takes alot to ping too. Check your timing, and make sure you know its pinging, lots of things can make noise.

I just put the 93 octane in this morning, and it was still doing it on the way in to work. But I had 89 in it before that and still did it. I'm almost positive that its pinging, I know what pinging sounds like. How do I check the timing without a light?

Is it hard on the motor when its pinging? If so, what's going on in the motor? What affects does advancing or retarding the timing have on the motor/performance?

yes it is bad, this pinging is "detonation" and can heat up the engine in a different way, a way that can eat a hole thru your headgasket. So you want to fix this soon. Most likely your timing belt is off a tooth.. ask me how I know

What causes it? What causes the belt to skip a tooth? Also, when should I change my timing belt, the car has 62k miles on it.

Edit: Will my warranty cover the work? And if so, should I put my stock intake and exhaust back on before I send it to the shop?

the MIL should light up showing a rich condition or a misfire code. if not maybe its your exhaust mainifold that is cracked i see alot of these civics with the cracked manifold. if your car has 75-150k miles you will get a free tune up kit which includes:spark plugs, cap & rotor, wires and oil cahnge. if you have any emission related problems the dealer will cover that.

Will they do the work too? Or do I just get the kit? Are you saying I shouldn't worry about removing my mods?
