I meant backing the timing off to play with the idle just for the emissions inspection. I would NEVER put power second to emissions...trust me. haha. GL with the new parts...I wish I had the time and money to continue building what I have BUT it's for sale

Im seriously laughing out loud right now at your post dude. Its a built GSR with 5k miles on it. Have you ever tried to pass a cammed car through emissions?? Click the link in my sig in the FS thread...you tell me if its a POS and hacked.
I dont think adding a gallon of methanol to a gallon of gas is a difficult process or whole bag of tricks...took my 5 mins to do.

^x2 ... I wish it would be as simple as that to pass my build. I think the fact that he passed with something as simple as methanol will be a good selling point to the next owner. The person that picks this car up will appreciate how easy it is to pass the car once it's time for smog.

Im hoping my buddy decides to buy it so in 2 years when he gets bored with it (he gets a new project every other summer) I can buy it back when I can afford to finish my turbo build for it. I have a chevelle and recently purchased a vega wagon w/ half tube chassis and removable front clip with my dad to build for 7-8's in the 1/4. Thanks for the support FM. At least someone knows what emissions standards put us through.

nice dude glad to hear it passed.
people always get pissed when their car doesn't pass.
I've owned my car for about 2 years, changed the oil twice(once before last emissions test) and I'm pretty sure my head gasket is done and my car passed no problem lol, shocked the hell out of me.

Thanks man. It's just frustrating when you can't pass a car that is built and running flawlessly. Wanting to go fast is a NO NO in WA apparently haha.

Interesting that you have both a Chevelle and a Civic. I imagine that Chevelle does a decent quarter...plus no hassles with smog, I would imagine. But yeah, I feel your pain. I'm arranging for my smog now. :p

The chevelle does an OK quarter, but for what it is a feel it's impressive. It will go mid 12's with a good launch...but it's a risky game to play with just a 10 bolt rear end. It weighs every bit of 3400 going down the track and running it with a muncie 4 speed makes it a blast...just hard on parts launching on slicks. Not having to smog it is a blessing... give it a listen and let me know if it would pass

Ha...time to upgrade your 10-bolt. If you do it yourself, it'll cost about what my smog will cost.

Thanks for the link. I'll look into it. I was looking into a 12 bolt or possibly even doing a custom ford 9 inch.

The Ford 9-inch was the first thing I thought of...all the muscle guys were doing that back when I was into muscle cars in the 80s. 12 bolt setups are pretty expensive, from what I've read. Probably not as expensive as a good set of axles for a Honda though.

Haha yea domestics are in most cases much cheaper to work on. A cam is $150, an intake 250-300 for a decent runner and headerS for $300. It kills me to see people spending 1k on a single 4 cylinder header. I run the Hooker super comps (HUGE) and got them barely used for $300, new they go for 600ish. Paying for 2 headers with 1 3/4" primaries that step up to 2" out of a 3" collector is far more gratifying than an SMSP. I will be doing a disc brake conversion as well so that was part of the thought of swapping out rear-ends all together. A built 12 bolt would run me about 1200 and a 9 inch 1500 or so.

I thought about that but disconnecting the header would have been obvious.

You could alwasy take it back to the dude who tuned it and depending on how he tuned it chip/flashpro or whatever, have it set back to stock so that way you have 2 tunes. When you get to the emissions place put stock tune in it then when it passes put yours back in.. Just an idea

How does hydrogen lower emissions? Youre an idiot. Nox fumes?? Increased gas form the injectors?? LoL. Make like a tree...and get outta here.

This was on a obd2a civic too...
Youre lying. Or you paid the guy off. Disconnecting the battery will reset the monitors. This would have failed the OBD2 check portion of the test for monitor status. There is no way around this.

OP your tune was shitty. There are many cammed Hondas here in CA that easily pass emissions. Glad you found your "trick". Maybe next time you can invest in a better tuner or advise the potential buyer of your car to do so....

And what cams might those Hondas be running? ITR? CTR? S2S1? All of those cams could potentially pass emissions. Once you get into more aggressive cams, all bets are off. Although the S2S2s that the OP is running aren't as aggressive as, say, a S2 Pro1, they do have bigger primaries than stock.

Unless you've seen the AFR map of the OP's tune, I'd refrain from making blanket statements like "your tune was cr@p". Quite sure his multiple statements that his car runs beautifully aren't a result of him running a cr@p tune.

I wish I knew how you guys can get on here and throw around statements like this. If I had a "shitty" tune I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be getting 28+ mpg in town and 32+ on the freeway still and still have the performance and power I am making. Also I find it extremely amusing you don't even know who tuned my car...but I'll just throw the name "James at speedfactory" out there and if you know ANYTHING about the honda world, tuning/dragging in particular, you know I have gotten nothing but the best up here is WA. The cams are a custom ground cam, slightly larger than OE primaries (still smaller than pro series) with tuner 2 size vtec lobes. The dyno chart is an art form when looking at all the curves. And it was done on a dyno dynamics which is difficult to do because they don't have any smoothing capabilities.
Anyways go ahead and believe I have a shitty tune because small cammed cars were passing down there (probably running some sort of extensive cat) and go spread more hate and discontent on H-T. It's guys like you who make me smile everyday.
