I have a question.

I have a leak by the cam gears, on the top hand right side of the valve cover. I already know I have to replace my valve cover/head gasket, maybe both. My question is, today while driving to work, I noticed a "clacking" noise whenever I hit between 3,000-4,500 RPM's (maybe more, but I didn't want to stress her). Is there something more to this than just the gasket/valve cover being replaced? Will this sound go away after those parts are replaced or am I looking at something more (maybe spark plugs). I hope it has nothing to do with the cylinders or anything. Any suggestions would be gladly appreciated and taken note of.

 

What engine? What kind of fluid is leaking? Any work done on the engine recently?

 

it's a d16 Si ('93)

No engine work as of recently, it's leaking oil, I know I have to replace the the gasket/seal but I hope it's nothing more ($$$).

 

Check your cam seal while you have the valve cover off. It could be leaking.
