Where do I spread the RTV??

Default Where do I spread the RTV??

Need to change my valve cover gasket, do i spread the rtv all around the new gasket when it is on the valve cover? My dad is saying that I need to spread it on the cam lobs, here is a picture of where my dad is telling me to spread it,

Not all over the top of the cam lobs, only need a tiny bit on the corners of the cam lob caps.

Quick question do I also have to spread it on the, sparkplug gasket?? It is my first time change a valve covergasket

RTV sealant is only required where a sharp corner or point exists on the gasket and the valve cover mating surface. These are the cam caps on either end of the valve cover. RTV needs to be used here to prevent leaks that could exist because the rubber gasket itself cannot seal the surface adequately.

In short, if you have a sharp change in height on the gasket surface, RTV should be used to prevent leaks at the sharp points.

Installing RTV on the spark plug tube rubber is pointless. Use the correct thickness gasket (often a Honda OEM part). If you have oil in the spark plug wells, you have porosity or a leaking cam cam girdle o-ring. Replace these as well.

RTV is not a catch-all. It is designed for certain situations only.
