Open deck sleeve Vs. Closed deck?
Is there any difference other than an open deck being better for cooling? If someone could please help me out I would appreciate it. I'm thinking of sleeving the block and wanna know which way to go. Thanks
Well, it is more engine builder preference than anything. I think the closed deck design offers more support than an open deck and as long as it has a moat ( reliefe on the top of the sleeve to allow normal coolant flow to the head ) then I believe there are NO issues with closed deckcooling. We have been sleeving motors for about 7 years, all of them closed deck and we have never had any issues with over-heating.

Being open or closed deck has absolutely NO influence on if the motor can be an everyday driver or not. It all depends on the sleeve design. Our sleeves allow the coolant to flow in it's "STOCK" free form to the head with no restriction from the sleeve. I have thousands of customers that use our blocks daily, and I have never heard of one issue with overheating
