Only starts sometimes. (need opinions)
Well lately my 92 civic has been pissing me off. I go out and the car starts right up, If i shut the car off and try to start it again it wont start, just cranks. While it wont start I AM getting spark and fuel. If I let it sit for 10-15 minutes or so it will fire right up.
If I start it up and shut it off so it wont start and then push start it it fires right up no matter what every time. I have replaced the main relay and ignition switch but nothing fixes it.....When I push start it the only thing it is bypassing is the starter and maybe the ignition but the motor cranks just doesnt start. What do you guys think?

The fuel pump relay is inside the main relay and i swapped it out and it didnt change. The starter is fine because its cranking....All grounds are good. The only thing i havent swapped out is the ignitor but i have spark so i dont see it being that.
But then again the car SHOULD start all the time because i have spark and fuel.
The only thing i can think of is that the car is not getting ENOUGH spark to start it sometimes.....Its getting spark but maybe its not enough.

Re: Only starts sometimes. (alleyezonme)
I called and spec with a master tech at honda....he said to replace the ignitor. He said when the coil goes then the ignitor isnt far behind it. He also said the ignitor's job is to boost the spark on start up that would explain why i can push start the car because the ignitor isnt being used.

Did you replace the old main relay with a new one?
If not, check the solder joints on the main relay.
Here's a how-to:

Re: (1TurboHatch)
Things I would check in this order because I've been there:
1) PGM-FI relay
2) Ignitor/Coil
3) Distributor itself.
If you have a friend that can lend this stuff to you... that's the best case scenario

the ignitor and coil have both been swapped out....The main relay has been swapped out. If i start the car and then i turn it off but dont turn the key to the "lock" position it will start up every time providing i dont turn the key to the "lock" position when i shut it off.....

Re: (1TurboHatch)
Ok well the car can not be started anymore as it could in my last post by not putting it in the "lock" position. It is back to its "start when it wants to" mode....Thing is it runs great when it does start....I have about had it with this piece of **** car.....

Re: Only starts sometimes. (96teggyls)
my car does the excact same thing (94 dx hatch) and my 92 four door did the same thing. it only does it when it is really hot out though. If i let it set for about 5 mins it fires right up and sometimes it starts then a couple seconds later it just dies no matter if you give it gas or not.
