car wont start. push start runs fine
i have a 93 gsr hatch that ran fine all these times until a day ago. I got in the car and it didn't want to start. It doesnt even click or turn or anything. It'll push start with no problem. I have checked fuses and they are all fine. What do I need to do? Please help!

does it make any noise when the key is turned to accessory position? like, key buzzer, or fuel pump sound, or anything to indicate you turned the key?
i'm assuming yes; the ignition is working because it runs when pushed and popped, so id listen to above and check all things starter related.

Check to see if you are getting power to the starter solenoid on the little wire when you turn the key...if not check the neutral safety switch too...Mines was like that and it turned out to be the starter relay.

Don't just go whacking parts. Pull out your starter and take it to your local parts store and have them test it. Then replace if necessary.

it's perfectly fine to thwack your starter. ive used this technique in the past and it works just fine. mine worked fine for about 9 more months after a good thwack...then needed to be replaced.

yea i dont think theres anything wrong with tapping ur starter there chief... y pull out a starter and go have it tested wen u can simply tap it and find out... much easier. ive done it and seen it done on numerous cars and trucks...

i agree here. it's not going to hurt to whack the starter solenoid to see if that will unstick it.

People should reply to their own threads to let us know if our suggestions fixed the problem, so that the thread is useful for searching and reading later on :S

ground ground ground! need I say more? check and make sure all your grounds are on.. 1 is from the transmission to the chasis and the other is from the head to the chasis. I ran my car without a ground from the tranny for a while until it finally wouldnt start. turns out I forgot to put one on the tranny when I did the swap and right when I did that the car started like nothing.

DUDE! The ground suggestion Raidacaipo said is TRUE! I just found out last week, I took of the ground connection to the transmission, and the car wouldn't crank! Would do nothing! Of course other than the fuel pump priming which was there, etc. No cranking. As soon as I put the wire back, BOOM it works!

Something similar happened to me about a week ago. Everything worked fine. I was able to push start it and it was running fine. The minute I turned it off it wouldnt turn on until I pushed started it agian. It was driving me crazy. On the floor mat of the drivers side of my car I noticed there were little rubber pieces everywhere. Theres a rubber piece that is attached to the pedal so when you push in the clutch it pushes in a button or something so the car will start. What I did to fix it was bypass the clutch so that I dod not have to push in my clutch to start the car. Instead of replacing the rubber piece and taking the whole pedal apart (it's a real BI***).

I was just about to suggest exactly that. happened for my clutch once and for my brake also and my brake lighs wouldn't turn off.
it's not a real bitch to take the pedal off though. Just unscrew like 3 screws and bolts and pull it right out. 3 or 4, can't remember. I used the stopped out of an accord cause they are platic instead of rubber, i just sprayed adhesive on the back of it, stuck it in the hole, and put it back in. Anything to cover that hole will work really.
