Default confused about my LSD??

Ok I get a motor from hmotors online that steve said has an LSD. But then I come on here and people say that if you cant see thru the axle shaft then you dont have LSD. So I go and look and this is what I see:

[/url]

So I am thinking I got ripped. So I fire up the engine and both axle shafts are spinning the same direction with the tranny in 1st. WTF. then I turn it off and try turning one side with it in gear and it wont turn. So it seems like I have LSD but why the hell does it look like that?! aahhhh im all confused right now~!

Nah, thats a LSD tranny. Some LSD units have washers between the drive gears. Thats why you can't see threw it.

Open diffs have a shaft going down the middle of it. Very easy to tell the difference. Even the Quaiffes have that washer in between the two set of splines. Don't worry, you have an LSD trans.

It's a LSD tranny. you can't see throught it because your intermediate/half shaft is installed.

I was thinking to myself why that washer didn't look right.

Whew! Ok good I have LSD. hmm so what kind would it be? I am sure that the tranny is the original tranny that came with the engine cause its never been unbolted. So would it be a quaife type LSD or clutch? how do I figure it out?

If it's an OEM Honda LSD, then I believe it should be a helical unit, same type as a Quaife, just not as good (according to Quaife). I know people that have them and they work fine.

*snicker* Yeah, ask Quaife to supply any data beyond rumor.

lol quaife wont even tell u why their stuff is better but just that it is... interesting. I am fairly sure that it is a oem LSD. I would bumed if it was a clutch type LSD. One more thing, the OEM LSD doesnt need any special fluids, right? Also how come I didnt see any stamps around on the trans indicating it has an LSD?

Just use Honda MTF and it will be fine.

Digressing back to Quaife, I found this on their FAQ section.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by www.quaifeamerica.com &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

What is the torque bias ratio of the Quaife differential?

QUAIFE does not specify bias ratio details and generally, does not use the term. The QUAIFE ATB differential is an all helical gear design. The angle and tooth form of the helix used, the number of pinions used, and many other factors (including the particular car fitted) all contribute to how the differential behaves and biases drive torque. Each QUAIFE differential application is designed to offer the best compromise between performance and durability.
</TD></TR></TABLE>

What exactly does that last sentence mean when the durability is supposed to cover a lifetime warranty? That statment about not using a bias ratio is mind boggling. To what specifications do they design their ATB differential?

Sounds to me like they are trying to avoid the direct comparison to the oem LSD. I don't doubt that quaife's are good but I think they might be overpriced compared to oem. I guess I will find out how strong mine is...
