The head was never disassembled other than the cams and valves. Basically I just replaced the springs and retainers, put new ITR intake valves in, laped them, had the head cleaned and decked, then put it back on.

you had the head cleaned and decked? If you removed your valves , there is enough movement (I think) for the pins in the rockers to come out, but you will need to investigate that for yourself.

I'm a tune noob, but when my friend was tuning my car, he knew my vtec wasn't engaging because it wasn't switching over to the vtec maps.

I didnt read the whole thread, but here s my .02:

Sounds like vtec is not engaging.
Check the Vtec solenoid
Check the oil pan for ANY DENTS
Do a compression test
Put an OIL PSI gauge on the head BEFORE the vtec solenoid, and report back what numbers you have. you MUST have 60psi of oil pressure to engage VTEC. if you dont have that, something is wrong.
PUT A STOCK STOCK STOCK GSR ECU IN THE CAR. you should still make 140-160whp with a stock ecu, not matter what.

report back

there is SO MUCH misinformation in this thread.

Dude that started it, go check for OIL PRESSURE, if you need more help PM me and ill walk you through it, you sound EXACTLY like a acr i had at my shop once.

I guess my SKunk2 PRO3 camshafts are too big for my street car, yet i make 237whp.

The cams ARE NOT THE PROBLEM, compression is NOT THE PROBLEM (IE his cams are to big, he may not make the best PEAK numbers, but he wouldnt be dynoing 50whp LESS than a stock engine)
