It used to be that most synthetic oils were totally derived from PAO base stock which means they were true synthetics. Then Castrol started marketing their GTX brand as synthetic even though it used a dino oil base. This caused Mobil 1 to sue because their true PAO based sythetic was much more expensive to produce, but they lost, so now there are a bunch of so called "synthetic" motor oils that aren't really 100% synthetic. If you want all of the benefits of a synthetic it is best to choose a 100% synthetic, I prefer AMSOIL.

umm...so what ARE true synthetics then? sounds to me like your describing syn. blends(GTX) and full syn. (mobil 1). i just want to know if FULYL syn. motor oil, such as mobil 1, royal purple, etc. have any kind of crude in it or is it all man made
