Default oil pressure...vtec disabling???

What is normal for the oil pressure to drop to when the motor switches into vtec? My b20vtec goes from a steady 75-80psi to a steady 45-50, but vtec seems to be fluctuating on and off...wtf? Any ideas? Should the pressure drop at all? To anyone with a guage: Watch yours switch over. This would be a great help here.
Thanks,
Jeff

I don't think it is supposed to drop at all.

I don't think oil pressure is supposed to drop. It should be above 60psi.

i hear that too at the crossover but for some odd reason i think mine's detonation. does yours only 'click' at the switch? that's the only time i hear a click. when i jumped the solenoid off the battery, there was no click or noise whatsoever. i don't get it. my vtec is working too.

mount power to the solenoid so it can be a hands free
deal.

then step in the car, rev until VTEC engages. My car comes
in at 2750 and bounces a limiter when I bridge the solenoid.

If you are having issues with the VTEC then you will hear
like a shearing snapping sound when the OIL pressure is
enough to engage the rocker pins.

you can also do this by holding the throttle open over the motor.
VTEC wont engage at idle, there isnt enough oil pressure.

O.k. The soleniod is working, but still, VTEC is in/out/in/out... Oil pressure drops to 40 from 70 before VTEC crossover. I'm thinking the problem must be in the head. I'm running a 4an line with a distribution block mounted on the bottom of the intake mani. which has the tee for my mechanical guage and sender for the light in the cluster. Any thoughts??? I'm stumped.
Thanks
Jeff

It's a b20vtec(sleeved crv block). I have a 4an line running from the block to the dist. block under the intake manifold, then into the passenger side of the head(rear corner). I'll get some pics tonight. I've seen a very similar set-up on a few other cars in the area, and they've been fine.
I'm thinking the problem lies in the head somewhere. As soon as vtec is switching, the pressure drops. Restrictors not functioning, maybe? Could the solenoid be somehow opening up too far ? hmmm...
Thanks guys. Keep the thoughts coming.
