Default oil pressure and vtec

if the oil pressure sensor light is "On" does that mean my vtec is disabled? Also can someone tell me the obvious as to why the oil light is on. My oil level is good, no leaks. could it be the oil pump? also im using a pr3 obd-1 ecu for my motor (b16a1 head w/gsr bottom). could this affect timing?

If you have been driving with your oil light on then I would say non-functioning VTEC is the LEAST of your problems...

If your oil pressure were really below about 2psi (where the light comes on) you'd already have messed up your engine. Since it has survived(??) then I'm thinking a bad pressure switch or bad wiring.

If that oil pressure light is on, that means you have no oil pressure in your motor!

Your oil filter is empty, and you have no oil pressure saturating your bearings.

Now since the switch works on a ground, if you had a bad connection, you should see no light at any time.

VTEC is the least of your worries now.
And yes, VTEC wont work.

so your saying that if i had bad wiring it wouldnt light up? lets say i had the right oil pressure and the light is still on (bad sensor), would my vtec still be disabled?

If you have proper oil presure, VTEC should work (considering no other VTEC problems) regardless of the light.
