Default oil drain back problem

I rebuilt my LS engine last year and shortly after I noticed my engine would make a wrapping sound for a second on first start up and the oil pressure would take a second to come in, my oil pressure light comes on for a very quick second, sounds like i just changed my oil filter or something every time is start it when its been sitting for a while, if I start it up, shut it off and start it up again within a few hours its fine. I belive the oil is draining back, now my motor has 80,000miles before the rebuild and has about 12,000 now and I think its time to do something, I never touched the oil pump when I pulled the motor apart but I did prelube the system before initial start, what do you guys think is the cause of my drain back problems? i tried a few different filters, mostly fram but im still getting the same problem.

Kyle

Is your oil pickup clean and are you running a factory oil pan? Either way, are there any major dents in it? I haven't ever seen/had any pump problems that are similar to what you're dealing with but it's defiately something to check. Normally when we break oil pump gears, they shatter into 1000s of pieces, and you obviously don't even try cranking the motor after it's been shut down. Also what viscosity oil are you using?

I put on another LS oil pan because my old one had a return line in it. It is a LS oil pan, I used a LS oil pickup and it was clean - I cleaned everything spotless. If I start it quick and shut it right down it has good oil pressure or if I take the wires off and crank it for a bit then start it it has good oil pressure so it has to be draining back threw something. I am using Mobil 1 5w-30 I have anways used 5w-30 I switched to synthetic after 1500 miles but it started doing this first.
