Default Oil Cooler Questions...

I'm thinking about installing an oil cooler in my car. I have looked at the mfactory kit and it looks really nice but i was wondering if i put together my own kit would i have to use -10 line or could i use -6... just would like to hear some oppinions about both.... i am considering getting an oil cooler with fan and installing a thermostat too... i tried searching but couldnt find any good info about the affects on oil pressure and stuff with different size line. My car is boosted and i am planning on getting a new turbo so i would like to install an oil cooler at the same time. Any help or input would be great

You run the risk of an oil pressure drop if you run smaller oil cooler lines.

i guess it sorta makes sense you want a free flowing oil cooler setup so it runs through the oil cooler as fast and easy as possibly and makes it back into the motor. but i still wanna see what some other people say... mfactory says that oil pressure stays about the same with their kit.

I want to mount my oil cooler where the passenger side foglight would mount.

i see the concern. i plan on running a restrictor at the end of the line, so there should be some back pressure

people who run remote oil filters dont seem to have a problem either.... and thats PRE filter and post filter.

id like some feedback on this for sure

I run -10 lines, no thermostat, a remote mounted Wix filter, and a Setrab cooler. I do have an oil psi gauge hooked up and I didnt notice any significant drop in pressure after the install.

A friend of mine runs -8 lines, has a thermostat, with the same cooler but without a gauge. His seems to be performing just fine.

I dont think i would run something as small as -6 line. I also think a fan on the cooler is a bit overkill, but if u did want one i would think the cooler would have to be quite big in order to strap a fan on it. IIRC my cooler is a 16 row. I also have an oil temp gauge and my temps rarely get over 210 unless im stuck in traffic with 95+ degree temps.
