1993 Automatic Civic DX

For a few months, my odometer has gone back and forth between working and not working. For 30 seconds it will act normally, and then it will just freeze, regardless of my speed. At random, it will move again. I've largely ignored it because it isn't a big deal, but now it has gotten worse.

My speedometer will dance around at speeds between what I'm going and zero. (Ex. I'm going 75mph, it will bounce around arbitrarily between 0 and 75). Neither of the problems are predictable or repeatable. They come and go whenever. These issues have had no effect on my car's power, idle, or ability to shift on time. No check engine light, the car isn't throwing any codes.

I would like to get this fixed, so what could be causing this?

Chances are, it's your cable not in the trans/cluster all the way. Or it's a bad speedo, but i've never seen it happen.

 

vehicle speed sensor probably.
actually i'm betting it is.
