Octaine Boost Question
If I mix bottle of Octaine Boost with a tank of 92 Octaine ( Chevron 92 Octaine as example ) what would be the resulting Octaine I will be running my car on? Who makes the best Octaine Boost? Thanks.
Well, it depends on a few things, first, which octane booster you are using. They often have indicators of how many points you will gain. The second thing is how big your tank is. this determines the ratio of gas to octane booster. Obviously, a 30 gallon tank with 92 octane and a bottle isn't going to get the same results than a 15 gallon tank with 92 octane and a bottle.
In general, on a honda, I don't think you're going to get anymore than 94 octane out of it. Usually, adding a bottle of that OTC stuff will only give you a few points (like decimal points). So you'll end up with 92.4 or so. You can try to pick up some stuff called Toulene at the paint store. Works just as well. In fact, that's what most OTC octane boosters are made of, with some other stuff like detergents and lubricants. Which you can put in your mixture, as mineral spirits and transmission fluid.
100 oz of toulene for octane boost
25 oz of mineral spirits (cleaning agent)
3 oz of transmission fluid (lubricating agent)
And you then have 1 gallon of premium quality octane booster.
