I'm going to be installing my exhaust soon...all I need is a muffler. I dont want to spend a ton of money on a muffler like an apexi.
Are the OBX mufflers crap?? What does anyone recomend I buy?
I have a 98 Civic Ex

 

crap. noise makers, zero performance gain. At least with a cat-back you get something other than sound.

actually if you look at it, its no different from a more expensive muffler. Stainless Steel, Perforated Core, Straight Through Design... only real difference is the sound deadening materials, which dont affect performance, only sound. The sound I hear is really deep, rumbles at idle, etc. Probably on the loud side and probably has a quite a bit of interior resonance.

However for about $80, it aint bad if you don't mind a loud exhaust. If you want a quiet exhaust, look elsewhere... you like loud? Here you go, get OBX.

I would just like to jump in here while the topic is still unmolested. I sell OBX products, and if you look at my sig you will see I also use the products I sell. OBX is good for some stuff, and crappy for other. As far as their mufflers, if you get a bomb tunable one, you're okay. The regular mufflers are pretty loud, but perform almost just as well as some of their higher priced counterparts. If you are looking for just a regular untunable..and you dont like loud...then be cautious. If you want a good sounding tunable one though, then the OBX's are pretty good.

Well would an obx muffler end up being a lot louder than another brand of muffler? I am confused how a different brand could make such a difference in sound...arent they all pretty much stainless steal mufflers...they come in pretty much the same sizes too....
anyone have any other opinions or sugestions on which muffler I would be better off with

 

I use Magnaflows for my systems. They carry a lifetime warranty through Magnaflow and use stainless steel mesh for their internals versus fiberglass that burns out in time.

 

i have one..and they come with removable and tunable resonators also..i like em

 

OBX is about as good or bad as any of the other cheap mufflers. Just get it if you like it.

 

I agree 100%. I know you are trying to save a couple bucks but is your baby worth it to you? I have seen too many people end up buying the good stuff in the end anyways when they are not satisfied with the cheap stuff.
Apexi, HKS, Skunk2 and Kakimoto all have good quality mufflers that will last and sound good. Spend a little extra now and get the good stuff. You won't be dissapointed.
