OBD2 Engine > OBD1 Engine in a 1996 DX Hatch
Hey all have some questions about changin over my 96 DX hatch over to obd1. Specifically i want to put an obd1 engine and ECU into the car, what all will i need and how hard will it be. I don't have many power options, I have manual windows, manualy mirrors, manual steering rack ( no PS ), no sunroof, no cruise. Prettymuch the only option i have is A/C which will get tossed when i do the swap....i'm thinkin LS/VTEC as my engine and i'm still thinkin about tranny but that can't be a last thing it doesn't matter....i heard it can be done if i could get the body harnesses to match up but since i don't have maybe options it shouldn't matter should it. Any info is welcomed.

If you're on a budget, go B20B/Z from a 98+ CRV, and swap it in.
If you're NOT on a budget, and just want MASSIVE power, a H22 swap would be your best bet.
Late.

doesnt matter if you put obd1 or obd2 engine in car ... you will need a 99-00 civic Si engine harness and ecu, and mounts to make life much simpler ... I have extra harnesses and ecus ... shoot an email if interested ... you can always get an obd2(99+) to obd1 ecu adater later on.

You can not use a 99-00 Si harness without rewiring the entire underdash harness or without repinning every single pin.
Seeing as he has a 96-98 Civic, the only harness that you can use is one that came from those years. An ex harness will be a little bit easier.
Anyways...this is what you will need to put an OBD 1 motor into an OBD 2 car.
Distributor, injectors and OBD1 ecu.
The OBD 1 distributor won't match up with the OBD 2 harness, so all you have to do is swap it out or rewire the dist. to work. It can be done..just match up the colors.
The injectors are the same thing. The plugs don't match up, so just swap them out for their OBD2 siblings. Or, like I said above, rewire them to work with the OBD2 harness.
If you run the OBD1 motor, you're gonna want to use an OBD1 ecu. Only for the fact that an OBD2 ecu will look for sensors that the older motor doesn't have, thus, you will have a few CELs.
To run the OBD1 ecu in your car, just buy the converter harness from Kenji or from Skunk2.
