what does it normally mean when it is hard to downshift the tranny into first gear at speeds above 25 mph. its a 95si tranny.

 

It means that the interlock is working to prevent you from downshifting into first and destroying your engine. If you are going faster than 20 mph and you can downshift into first in that tranny, the interlock is not working.

There is no interlock to prevent shifting into first, no matter WHAT the speed. Trying to get the synchro to spin up the shaft speed to allow you to get into first is the problem. You have to apply pressure which will sometimes break the 1-2 shifter fork.

Now if you downshift properly, it slides right into 1st.

Try going 40 mph in 4th and downshifting into 1st without grinding or excessive pressure.

Very simple..............

Double clutch.

 

what about rev match..

 

"rev matching" doesn't speed up the shafts, only double clutching will.
