When swapping an OBD1 engine into an OBD0 car.
I know you must repin the distributor, so it will plug in and work with the OBD0 harness and wiring.
But my question is WHICH side do you repin? Do you repin the dizzy side and use the OBD0, clear white plugs, which will then match the plugs already on the engine harness.
Or, do you use the OBD1, grey ones and repin the engine side so it will match the OBD1 dizzy plugs? Simple question, I know, but is their a right or wrong way of doing it?

You can't use a OBD 1 Dis with a OBD 0 Ecu due to the different type trigger wheel that it use for the crank sensor. On a OBD 1 Dis, it has 24 tooth, and on a OBD 0, it has 16 tooth.
yah I think he means converting the car to obd1 with a obd0 to obd1 ecu conversion harness
you can always do what I did to take advantage of your obd0 wiring harness with an obd1 wiring harness without hacking your distributor or your wiring harness

Thanks for the help.
But maybe I wasn't clear, enough.
It's an OBD1 changeover into an OBD0 car, blown90hatch's jumper, ecu, dizzy, injectors, etc.
But I need to know WHICH dizzy plugs to repin.
The engine harness side or the dizzy side?

Yes irv210
But I'm not really clear on what you said, here. Can you say again?

do what I did...
take your old dizzy, cut the plug off
take your obd1 wiring harness, cut the dizzy plug off
All the wires match together, cept you will notice that there are 2 white wires on the obd0, the white wire that is a little fatter and has a red piece of tape at the base of the plug goes to the blue/yellow I think, or whatever wire is left over that doesnt match to anything, the other white wire goes to the obd1 white wire.
If your car doesnt start, you kow u have it backwards, but im pretty sure thats right.

Thanks great info
Now to throw a monkey wrench into those directions.
Can I do the above WITHOUT cutting anything?
Can I do it ALL by repinnig?
You know by just swapping the plugs themselves and leaving the wires intact?

So is that a "jumper" you wired up to go from the engine harness to the obd1 dizzy?
Or is that the dizzy harness itself, with an obd0 plug on it?
Pretty cool either way you did it, though.

its a jumper harness
you plug one side into your obd0 engine wiring harness, the other side into your obd1 distributor.
This way you have a perfectly good obd0 wiring harness if u wanna go back to stock, and a perfectly good obd1 dizzy if u ever need to sell it

PERFECT!!
That's a BETTER idea than my original idea!
That's what I'm gonna do.
to you, thanks.

No the distibutors THEMSELVES, are NOT swappable, between OBD0 and OBD1. Just the wiring. The distributor and the ecu MUST ALWAYS be the same OBD. The OBD0 dizzy is incompatable with the OBD1/2 dizzys. (there are a couple of exceptons, but as a general rule it's 90% true.)
