obd-1 p30 ? chipped or not?
i recently got a sir2 clip from japan direct in NC(great to do biz with). the owner of the clip had some aftermarket stuff on it like eibach springs, bilsteins, what i beleive to be endless brake pads(for sale),etc. after driving it for a while i started to notice that my vtec was engaging @6000 and my rev limiter gets up to at least8600 and i swear it went to 9000 once . gas mileage has'nt been the greatest but i kinda wrote it off to having shorter gears. if anybody knows what program i'm runnin plese let me know. thanx
how will i know? i've seen pics with hand written stickers on it.....what if its in japanese? sorry if i sound like a total dumbass

Remove the top cover from your ecu.
Then, remove the 4 screws holding down the knock sensor board and peel it back.
Your ecu should look like this now:
Now, look at the image above again.
Do you see the chip on there with a silvery 'SPOON' sticker?
See if your ecu has the same style of chip in the same location, not necassarily w/a spoon sticker on it, but just a eprom chip nonetheless. If you have an eprom chip there with some kind of special writing on it or a company sticker on it, then your ecu has been reprogrammed by some place in Japan.
Now, if you see nothing there but a green board in the area where the eprom chip is suppose to be (as seen below), then your ecu is completely stock:

thanks a lot for replying katman. the board is not empty in that spot. i already opened it up and put it back.. i guess i should have come inside and checked on here. but i didnt. i guess its time to go back and check again
...ok, but there is an eprom chip there eh? does it have a brass colored square sticker on top of the chip at all ? as seen here:
if so, then the eprom is from the factory and has a oem program on it.
if not, then you have yourself a reprogrammed ecu from JDM land

Honda gauges are a little off.
I'm pretty sure your vtec is kicking on at about 5500rpm which is oem crossover point for a P30 ecu, and redline is about 8400-8500rpm.
When i reprogram the ecu, it deletes the knock sensor only, every other sensor works.

As far as taking out the actual SRS or ABS light bulb from the cluster, no, it shouldn't disabled the SRS or ABS from working.
Now if you unplugged the SRS or ABS plug from the backside of the cluster, this I'm not sure about it, if it disables the SRS or ABS...I don't assume it does though.
If you directly unplug the SRS or ABS ECU's however, that will totally disable them from working.
