Default O-ringing a block

I am building a gsr motor and i have the old style darton sleeves similar to AEBS sleeve style...... I had a machine shop install a metal o- ring of .043 thickness .... i was wondering with this size o ring do i have to put a resessed groove in the head? also would it be a good idea to spray the head gakset with a copper spray? I am using a MLS cometic head gasket by the way?

thank you

With the o-ring installed it should only be about .006" or so above the deck.you don't need to cut a recess in the head.I always use copper spray and have never had a problem. Not positive it works but I'm sure it doesn't hurt.
