How important to deck block/head?
For the past hour I've been scraping off the ******* head gasket of an extra engine I'm rebuilding, and I'm wondering how important it is to have the head/block decked...I haven't checked it yet w/ a straight edge and feeler gauges, and if it's not warped I'm assuming it's fine? Also, I've been using some cheap piece of **** gasket scraper with a razor blade on the end, and I've put a few nicks on the block surface (very small) would these be ok?

I agree... reassurance that the head and block surface is straight and good to go. If not... then thats what separates it from being a reliable motor to a messed up motor.

well if you don't mind heat spots or warpages of the head, and improperly sealed headgasket with the all the money you spent on the engine....yeah I guess decking the block and milling the head isn't too important.
