Default Number three Oil Ring

My cylinder 3 is burning oil. It started after my exhaust gasket blew out. I realized I was burning oil so I diagnosed the issue being just valve seals but after replacing them there is still oil burning.

What is the likelyhood of the oil ring being damaged during this time and that being the cause?

Compression is even all across the cylinders

How did you determine it was "just valve seals"??

The car was blowing a lot of blue smoke when engine braking/decel while in gear. I didn't notice much smoke while accelerating at the time due to how much it was smoking on decel. Now that it no longer smokes when decelerating all I notice is blue smoke while accelerating. It also seams to be worse when the engine is cold.

Also the set up is a dart block with aries pistons b16 head and topmount gt30r

Looks like it was more than valve seals then. Compression numbers are not relative to oil rings. You can have perfect compression and bad rings. Take a look at the pistons and that will tell you what you need to know.

Yes I understand that. I was only adding that bit of imformation to clear any doubt of cylinder wall scuffing. I strongly believe it is an oil ring but also havent heard of anyone having an issue with one cylinder.

Are these factory rings or aftermarket pistons?
Check for oil in the charge piping.

Aries Pistons with matching rings. There is slights residue in the charge piping but in my opinion no where nearthe amount it would take to cause the amount of smoke I see. Also all 3 other cylinders/spark plugs are perfect.

The oil is coming from either the turbo, the valve seals, the rings, or a head gasket (but that would cause other obvious problems). The rings are highly unlikely but you said you replaced the valve seals and it no longer smokes on decel...

Did you check the valve guides?

To me I find it hard to believe it can be the turbo due to the heavy isolation to cylinder 3

Agreed. Its either the rings or valve seals in that cylinder. I still think its the seals tho. The second and primary rings would have to fail too inorder to consume that much oil. And I dont think youd have strong compression in that cylinder if that were true.

And thats exactly what I thought but i don't understand why it would only smoke while being in boost/load

I had the same issue with mine except just stock. It would barely smoke except when you raped on it and the compression was perfect.

Thats the same thing mine does.

What did it end up being? I am about to order a set of rings and just re-ring that one cylinder with the block in the car

Do you have the head off? As I mentioned earlier, look at the piston. It will tell you were the oil is coming from. (unless its coming from the turbo)

How old are the seals in the turbo? That cylinder could also just be running a tad rich, make sure its not the turbo before you tear the block down since you say it only happens during boost/load.

Top engine cleaner is good for freeing up stuck piston rings. Pour a few capfulls on top of the piston and let it soak over night. Then take it out and blow the cobwebs out of it.
