A friend of mine bought a UK CRX VT (B16A1 PWO motor) The problem he has is that when he brakes hard the oil light flickers on and off, and when he's in VTEC the vtec cuts in and out and he gets code 22 (oil pressure switch) The oil level in the car is fine and i'm guessing that the oil pressure sensor switch wire to the ECU is frayed somehwhere along the line bewteen the switch and the ECU and is grounding itself causing the oil light to come on, and when the oil pressure isnt correct (at the ECU) vtec will not work. Before we start trying to trace back wiring to the ECU...is there any thing else that would cause the above symptoms?

There's one pressure switch for the dashboard oil light. There's another switch, with it's own separate circuit, for the VTEC oil pressure. If it was a frayed wire, it would have to be 2 different frayed wires. Quite a coincidence...

just to make it clear, they are saying its more likely something wrong with the oil pump/ distribution and all the sensors are working fine.
this is really bad. check it immediately. if the pressure is indeed low, uit might be something simple like dropping the oil pan and clearing blockage to the oil pickup etc.

Ok thanks....we replaced the oil pressure switch unit with a good one so its not the switch itself. I think we'll drop the oil pan and have a look to see if we can see anything amiss. Thanks for your replies, i'll keep you posted on what we find.

sure, but that wouldn't make the oil light come on
