I too have a P13 ecu that is throwing both a Knock Sensor and an o2 code. I've already replaced the o2 but I still have the code. Is the KS tied in somehow with the o2? And if I switch to a P28 ecu, will that fix the problem? I was told that it would.

I think the size i used to break my knock sensor was 1" 1/16, but make sure that you use a deep socket to install it!!! A $50 mistake on my part.

if vtec still kicks in, then your not in safe mode. and im pretty sure that the knock sensor not being there wont put you in safe mode. and you would sure as hell notice when the ecu is in safe mode! and not all cel's would throw you in safe mode, only the major one's, like tps, map, etc. just throw a nock sensor on the bitch, or bypass it. its easy as hell!
I have a ks (cel 23) and tps (code 7) code, and my car hits vtec and revs all the way out.... However, i t hink the cars performance is hindured, yet not in limp mode.

Easy and simple.....you DO NOT lose power from a missing knock sensor. It will throw a CEl however this WILL NOT put it in safe mode! You lose no power from not having a knock sensor.

throwing a knock sensor on is easy, but to bypass it you'll have to find out what voltage the knock sensor throws out to the ecu. ive never done it but im sure it cant be too hard. ill try to find out for you.
If your wiring harness supports a knock sensor (meaning you have a plug for one) yet your block doesnt.....you can have a stud or threads put onto the back portion of your block like it would have on a say gsr block. The way the sensor works is it senses vibrations...and abnormality coming from the block will throw a CEL

You do lose power though, when u get the cel 23, it makes your car run richer, and retards the timing, my car started running like *** once i got it. When i reset the ecu, i can tell as soon as i get the code again, cause my car starts backfiring.

does anyone have the ecu pinouts of a p28
yes here:
btw, all of the B-series OBD1 and H-series ECU's have the same pinout locations:

i also really need a pinout for a p72 ecu on how to hardwire in the knock sensor on the oil pump. Safe mode can happen in many different ways. you guys that are just on here talking **** are stupid. safe mode on a 0bd1 p72 just robs vtech of a little power. i need the ecu pinout for a obd1 p72 gsr so i can hardwire in the knock sensor. it isnt mandatory but it does make a small performance difference that you can feel. Dont buy a new sensor unless you put a obd1 engine in an obd2 car. With an obd2 engine in an obd1 car you just hardwire the knock sensor into the correct pin on the obd1 ecu and your cel doesnt ever come on for your knock sensor again

Well Mr Sherlock can you enlighten me on how to wire a knock sensor on the oil pump?? . Im also sure it robs alil of the "VTECH" power . Yeah my cordless is running low on battery.

The point is Code 23 DOES NOT put the car in Limp mode. Ive done many LS/Vtecs and those who cant afford don't run one. It doesnt do any damage unless you run some cheap ol gas that makes ur engine knock. You can also advance the timing on the cam gears to aleviate the problem. Most people run chipped ECU's that dont even look for a knock sensor.
