Default No knock sensor = less power?

Alright my b16 doesnt have a knock sensor installed, and I get the CEL. Somewhere I heard that the ecu will go into safe mode when the CEL is on, is this true?

edit-and if it is, how does it affect the output of the engine? Appreciate the help.

if ur cel is on and its cuz of ur knock sensor then it means that ur vtec is not engaging and ur car is not putting out the top end power it should
the easiest way to fix it is to go and buy a knock sensor but if you don't want to buy one then do a seach on how to by pass it

just for clarification
not any CEL will put the ecu into limp mode
only major ones

like the knock sensor.

If your in limp home mode... you'll know it.

If your car revs to redline or engages vtec... you aren't in limp home mode....

VTEC still kicks in without the knock sensor.

yes it does effect the power.

what ecu does when it goes into a major 'limp' mode/code it retards the timing/richens up the fuel maps

I suggest fixing the problem or disabling the knock by either reprogramming or using a 1k resistor connected to the ground.

See, VTEC engages, but the CEL still comes on.

Now what about the 1k resistor to the ground???

1k to the ground? I need to know how to do this.
What am I grounding the connection to the back of the block through a 1k to ground?
Or ECU?

if vtec still kicks in, then your not in safe mode. and im pretty sure that the knock sensor not being there wont put you in safe mode. and you would sure as hell notice when the ecu is in safe mode! and not all cel's would throw you in safe mode, only the major one's, like tps, map, etc. just throw a nock sensor on the bitch, or bypass it. its easy as hell!

throwing a knock sensor on is easy, but to bypass it you'll have to find out what voltage the knock sensor throws out to the ecu. ive never done it but im sure it cant be too hard. ill try to find out for you.

my friends b18 doesn't have a knock sensor, check engine is on and still runs like a bat out of hell but when the light isn't on it won't run for nothin. get a p28 ecu, it doesn't have a knock sensor in it. that will solve your problems. you can't program it out and the hole grounding thing i have never heard of so you decide.....

cut the connection between the ECU and knock use the side that comes out of the ECU add the 1k resistor and simply ground it. this should take care of your problem.

Does anybody have a site that shows how to install a knock sensor, as in wire it to the ecu? I checked c-speed, and yahoo n ****, but no luck......

is this for an obd I motor or what?

this seems like a cool way to do this..

and does this really work?

...just get the ecu reprogrammed with a disabled KS. It's as simple as that.

My P72 absolutely does not go into limp mode without a knock sensor. It will throw code 23 all day (once i rev past 3000... otherwise no code 23), but even with the CEL on it will rev to 8000.

I tried this and it didnt work... still got the cel...and specifics that might cause it not to work???

or does this really not work.....

Same here, with p30 CEL goes on, but vtec still engages and pulls like a bast.
