No compression in my type r shortblock
I bought it from this guy, and it has been laying in my garage for like 3 months. Well its all put in, and the thing won't start. Did a compression test and it comes out with virtually no compression. I"m like WTF!!!! Visually the block looked brand new. Although I didn't tear it down to see it had piston rings. I assumed they would be there.
There is a couple of possibilities here. 1) rings are stuck 2) piston may be shot from underneath 3) there are no rings whatsoever
Anyone else ever come across this problem?

usually it would be the rings. Did you ever take a comp test before the itr block?
what was the comp then. Also i would kill that guy.

eh? you can see the rings on the shortblock. otherwise the pistons would move around a *bit*, but enough to notice. im sure they were there, could just need replacement..
although - you said the shortblock has no compression, did you put the head on first?

My first guess would be in the ring lands. The ring lands may have cracks in them and resulting in loss compression. If they are cracked it doesn't always mark up the cylinder walls, so there isn't anyway to tell unless you tear down the block.
