New piston rings, what do I do?
I am going to put new rings on my pistons and I want to do it correctly. Can anyone tell me exactly all I should do. I heard I need to hone the block, get new bearings and stuff, but what exactly and what all can I do myself without taking it to a shop?
How many miles are on it? What engine?
Well you need to check the bores of the cylinders for out of round, and if they are worn or out of round they need boring. After that, you need to hone the cylinders so that rings have a surface to seat to. It can be done by hand drill or bore and hone press which I am sure you dont have it your garage.
The last step is setting ring end gap.
Now keep in mind that this is a basic run down of what needs to be done. So I say if you have never done it or dont have the tool take it t a machine shop. It will only cost like 200 for them to do it.

It is a 1990 JDM B16A1. It had, so I was told, 30k. I put new pistons in before I put it in the car so they have about 5k on them. I was going to hone it by drill in my garage. I thought I needed bearings and stuff. Is that all there is to it?
So you replaced the pistons but used the old rings? What type of pistons?
Also what type of rings do you plan on using?
If you are planning of pulling the engine anyway to do the rings, yes replace the bearings and seals.
I am really confussed on what you are trying to do and why you are doing it. Are you building the engine up? Are you burning oil and need new rings? What is the plan?
