Need quick clarification on valve's and firing order! HELP!!!
As some of you may know, I'm animating and constructing a motor in 3D.
Anyway, I'm trying to figure out how the cams and valves should operate. The firing order for our motors is 1-3-4-2 but here's my question.
Lets say cylinder 1 fires. The piston in cylinder 4 is at the identical place vertically but are the valves in cylinder 4 still allowing the compression of air and the expulsion of the compressed non-combusted air? Or, are the intake and exhaust valves in cylinder 4 just held open so that no compression occures?
Thanks to anyone who is familiar with this stuff
, its starting to confuse me

, its starting to confuse me
as the #1 piston is at compression stroke the #4 is at exhaust stroke
each cylinder fires at every other release
so it has to travel up twice to get one explosion per cylinder
so when the #1 is on its "explosion" cycle the #4 is on the exhaust and
air pull cycle
this may have been more confusing but i am shure you are smart enough to figure out what i am saying

In other words, when the valves for cylinder number 1 are closed and it is compressing air, the exhaust valves on cylinder number 4 are open and it is pushing air out the exhaust as the piston comes up.
