Need an opinion on a engine noise
I just droped in a used 94 gsr motor with 9-1 je pistons and eagle rods into my car and I'm hearing a knocking noise and my oil light is on. My oil light is on at idle (after the car warms up) but goes away around 1,200 rpms but doesn't go away until around 2,200 When the car warms up. It seems the knocking noise starts right when the oil light goes out and then goes away a few hundred rpms after it started. It sound like its coming from the front of the motor but I can't tell where.
I'm thinking rod bearings but the guy I bought the motor off of swears it was rebuilt 7,000 miles ago and ran fine when he took it out. Is there anything else that would cause this? I just need a second opinion before I try and get my money back and take the motor back out.
Before I put the motor in I took off #1 and #4 rod caps to inspect the bearings and everything looked fine. I torqued the caps back down to I think it was 25 ft lbs (arp bolts). Is there anything I could of done to cause this?
Thanks for any help.

you have a dent in your oil pan?
i had a decent sized one, did the same thing.
i would try to get your hands on somthing to test oil pressure.
it will tell you alot.
also what kind of oil did you use? (10w 30, 5w-40, synthetic)

Yes there is a dent in the pan. A nice deep one but I didn't think it would hurt anything because it wasn't near the pick up screen. I think it was under one of the baffels near the tranny.
I using normal 10w 30.
I using normal 10w 30.
I replaced the pan and made sure everything was tight and torgued to spec but I nothing was abnormal. I did notice that when the #4 was coming up to tdc on the com stroke the motor got alot harder to turn. Would a bad bearing cause this?
