Default Need Info about OBD

I just recently got a complete bottom end and the guy did not know which obd series it was all he knew is that it was a b16. My question is the difference between obd0, 1, and 2 engines. on the bottom and top ends. for instance say this is an obd0 block what would i need to do to change the block to obd1 to work with my cylinder head.

also can i tell by the number stamed on the block what year the engine is so i know what series.

Thanks

OBD0 has nasty looking yellow colored plugs, OBDI and II have gray plugs. Only difference between OBDI/II are injectors, distributor, and one emissions sensor.

Look at the distributor, if the plug is yellow, it's OBD0, if it's two gray plugs it's OBDI, if it's one gray plug then it's OBDII.

Externally, OBD 0/I/II blocks are the same.

if it is a short block, it shouldn't really matter. like he said, externally, all OBD blocks are the same.

one difference no one has mentioned yet, is that obd2 has the crank sensor in the timing belt area

right, but are those built into the oil pump? because the distributors are different too.

i also forgot to mention...
if this is an H block, there are closed decks for OBD1 and open deck for OBD2.
and then the rod journals are going to be bigger on the OBD2 crank.

don't take off too much material. why not just get it spin balanced and polished?
