Need help with timing belt problem
I just changed the timing belt in the accord. It starts up fine and everything but when you accelerate, it makes this irritating noise like a loose exhaust pipe rattle. It only happens for a second. It doesn't make this sound at idle or when the car is not moving and you give it some throttle. Only when you accelerate. I did put a 6 in. crack in the timing belt cover. I don't think that would cause it though. Any help would be appreciate.
Are you sure that you got the alignment marks right. If you skipped a tooth or somthing it could be detonation just my thoughts though.

it sounds like a loose timing belt to me? did remove that 10mm bolt on the tensioner side of the timing. I get sooooo much customer complainning of a rattle after some joe back yard tech. did his/her timing belt and everytime they for get to take the bolt of the tensioner arm. check that first it's very easy. just remove the upper t-belt cover and with a flash light check and see if there is bolt on tensioner arm.. if so, you need to remove it...

Is it really a loose timing belt? Which 10 mm bolt? The only 10 mm bolts I could think of are the ones that hold the timing belt cover on. I put all the bolts back where it came from.

There is a 10mm bolt holding the t belt tensioner on, you have to loosen it up then follow the instructions on how to tighten the belt.

the 10 mm bolt that i was talking about it were the tensioner arm pivots on. However, if you don't know what i'm talking about you perhaps never installed one. some people installs a bolt and forget to remove after installing the belt. the bolt is only install to hold the tensioner inplace during replacement. like I said, if you don't know what i was talking about you perhaps never installed one.
You should remove the upper timing belt cover, then start your car up and rev the engine. You should be able to see if the timing belt is loose or not.

I'll try that.

Ok guys.... I took off the top timing belt cover and started it up. The belt seem to be on tight, but I could slide it side ways a little bit (like your taking the belt off) on the camshaft pulley. When I rev the motor, I could see the belt flex a little bit like it's kinda loose. So is this a loose timing belt? If so, do I just tighten up the tension?

Did you click the link I gave you. You need to have the engine at tdc, loosin the tensioner bolt, rotate crankshaft counterclockwise 3 teeth on camshaft pully to create tension on timing belt.

Ok... I took the bottom timing belt cover off and it seemed like either my balancing belt was loose or it wasn't balance. I had some help. It's all fixed now. The timing belt was on tight, by the way.
I copied it from the helms, but when ever I do it I just rotate the engine over about 3 times or until the number 1 cylinder is at tdc and then check to see if the timing belt is tight and in the right spot.
