Sorry for the title but i really need your help.
car: 93 honda civic hatchback
motor: JDM GSR
Problem: There have been two problems we have ran into have preforming the swap two weeks ago. First the idle has been fluctuating like a bitch when its cold. As the car warms up and is driven, the idle stabalizes, but at a high rpm. The second problem i have ran into was my car running so rich. When i am at a stop light i can see exhaust comming up from my back hatch and sometimes into my car(yuck) when i get on it the least bit(half throttle) I see black smoke poor out the back. I had changed the oil before we ran the car and ran an extra qt through the motor to get out any old oil still in there. I then drove my car to my dads house in orlando(150 miles) and by the time i had got there i had put in the past couple of days roughly 350 miles.....breaking in that clutch hehe. Anyways when i got to my dads and showed him the motor, he did not like how it was running so rich. He asks to check the oil and i told him we just had changed it before i came. As he pulle the dipstick out, the oil looked clear and fresh, but when he wiped it off on a paper towel, it was black with a watery tint to it. That was really odd to him because he said the oil dint look black, but it looked contaminated. We then changed it and drove about 5-10 miles and came back to check it. When we did, it looked just as black as it did before we changed it. We were like wtf? The oil only had ten miles at most on it!?! Then we smelled the oil and it smelled like gasoline!
Could there actually be too much fuel running through my system that some of it is actually not vaporizing and getting into my oil?
It is currently at honda right now and they are replacing the IAC and some hoses that I didnt have(but were not needed. They said they are not sure why it is running so rich, but could send a sample to a lab and find out! Hell no!
Depending on what they say tomorrow, I am going to pick up the car and try to find some who knows whats going wrong with it. The tech. said he can only work in stages, so he has to try certain parts to see if they work..........which costs me hella money and he doesnt even know if they will correct it.......money that i do not have right now!
Ok to wrap this up and sorry its so long, but what do you think is wrong? Could it be
bad fuel injectors?
bad o2 sensor? (we had to extend the wires and didnt soder them, but instead butt clamped them)
could the idle air control fix it?
Please let me know what you guys think, because it's like putting dirty oil in my engine and if ran for long enough, i will have a serious problem!
Thanks

You could have a few possible problems... however I wouldn't drive the car until you can keep the gas out of the oil (it can in fact break down the protective film that oil provides and therefore wear down metal surfaces).
Here's a quick list of what it could be:
1) bad fuel injector (s) stuck open-very likely, happened to my friends car and was doing what yours is
2) bad plugs/wires etc (not enough spark basically) causing unburnt fuel to get washed into cylinders
3) what ecu/fuel system are you using? do you have bigger injectors/adj fuel pressure regulator? If the fuel system isn't stock then improper tuning might be your problem
good luck and let us know if any of these were the answer

No, right now i am having to replace the throttle body because of the tps sensor.....$$OUCH$$.
So do you think it is more than likely the fuel injectors that are bad? Right now i am having to drive the car from school to work and back, so is that really bad? I have about 650 miles on the engine since we did the swap and i just got it to stop running so rich by replacing the IAC and a few hoses. I was going to change the oil at 1500 miles and see if fuel gets back into it again. Should i wait or do you think it is bad fuel injectors and is their any way to tell?
Also how much are fuel injectors?
Thanks

It's bad to drive the car if the injectors are stuck open, yes. This causes gas to stick to the sides of the bores in the block, and this in turn washes them down from their protective oil coating, causing the piston rings to wear prematurely by rubbing against the block walls without their oil film. I imagine it could also cause some gas to get into the oil supply.
Definitely get those injectors checked out
Any service center should be able to check them for you. The easiest way to tell if they're running crazy rich is to pull the spark plugs. If they're damp and smell like gas, you've got yourself a problem!

See if the oil smells like gas again and as mentioned above, I would pull the plugs to see what tell tale signs they show... If everything is normal then there's no need to replace parts that are probably fine ---if you do a search on reading plugs you should find a good bit of info on this site...good luck
oh you never answered about what sort of fuel /ecu you are running...if its a chipped p-28 then you may not have a good program or even a possibly defective chip (happened to me when I first swapped - bad chip in my chipped p28 caused it to barely run cause it was WAY too rich). Assuming that you are running a chipped ecu, if you still have a stock p-28 or a friend with one try to put that in and it should run much better if that is the problem.

Whoops sorry about that.......no I am running the stock ecu which is why i found it weird that gas was getting into my oil. If its not the injectors, then it was because i was running so rich before....I think....tell me if i am on the right track. Before i replaced the IAC my idle was fluctuating like crazy and i had alot of exhaust comming out of my muffler. It was so bad that it use to come into my car when the wind blew right and would burn my eyes...lol Anyways now that it has been fixed, my idle is fine and their is no more exhaust gases comming heavely from the muffler. So i guess this means i am not running rich anymore? Anyways we are going to change the oil and see if gas contaminates it again and if so we will look into getting new fuel injectors, but could it have been fixed now that it doesnt look like i am running rich anymore?
*Also, could you smell your friends exhaust fumes from his engine bay? The reason why i ask is because my friend said although we need to figure out the problem asap, if it was really bad and your injectors were leaking you would be able to smell it from the engine bay.......Is this true because mine never smelled like gas, only the oil itself.
Thanks again for your help!
