Default need help with emissions, EVAP

does the evap purge control selenoid have anything to do with emissions? I just went to get my lil bro's car checked for emissions and failed. one thing I forgot to do was add the vaccum line from the EVAP to the cylinder on the firewall. would this greatly effect my idle limit? I get 1 more free re-test. so if I add the vaccum line, you think it will pass??

This is a 93 civic CX with a DX motor(d15b7)

here's the readout of the emissions sheet:

HC (PPM) CO(%)
Idle Limit: 220 1.2 <--limit
Idle Emissions: 470 5.83 <--readings for the car
Fail Fail

everything else passed. need help guys. TIA!

evap purge solenoid IS part of the emissions system. you need that part and the vacuum line that goes with it.

thanks for the quick answer. so you think not plugging in the vaccum line would effect it that much?

limit for HC(PPM) is 220 and the car was reading 470

limit for CO(%) is 1.2 and the car was reading 5.83

these readings are WAY off and above the limits.

assuming that your cat converter and MAP sensor is in good working condition, that would be the culprit.

lol, actually, the car is catless, running straight exhaust piping straight from the header back. you think that would effect emissions?

no CEL for MAP so hopefully it's fine. here's the deal, what I did was reuse the MAP sensor off the old CX motor cause my lil bro didn't want to use the TINY CX TB. an EG DX has the MAP on the firewall, so since my bro has a EG CX, we had to mod the MAP sensor. anyways, I just ran a vaccum line from the MAP sensor to a nipple on top of the DX TB. hopefully you get what I'm saying.

hopefully the EVAP is the culprit. I just don't see it throwing off the limits by that much. it's WAY off. I just added the vaccum line and the car seems to idle a lot smoother. I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow. thanks for the help.

forgot to add but not sure if this would effect anything but I'm still running the CX ECU.

The EVAP system controls emmissions, but not from the tailpipe. So that's not the stuff they're measuring during a test. So there must be some other reason for failing the test.
