Need Help ASAP! car is idling high
I have a 98 4dr gsr and I just put in my new Skunk2 IM and the Password JDM Intake but for some reason my car is idling like crazy. When I turn on the car the idle just starts going up and it won't stop. What could be causing this?
It doesn't stop period? Is your throttle cable too tight? Did you check the butterfly? Is there a possibility that you marred it when you swapped it over? Gaskets new?
yea...everything was put on right. that's why I don't know what is wrong. I did use new gaskets for it and everything. But for some reason when I turn on my car the rpm just idles up and keeps going up and doesn't stop unless I turn off the engine.
Do you have a sensor in the IAT hole on that manifold? My 2000 civic has the IAT that goes in the intake pipe, instead of the manifold, and when I cranked it up, it shot up to 4000rpm. Mine was on the 1st runner on the side, so I didn't see it for a few minutes.
The IAT hole is on the manifold aleady. I think it might be the knock sensor in the back of the gsr head right below where the intake manifold sits because I think I might have damaged it when I was taking out the gsr manifold. Took everything out and gonna start from square one again.

If that's not it than could what the hell could it be. A leak wouldn't cause the rpm the idle all the way like that when I start my car. Wouldn't a leak just make it idle up and down?
That could be, the purge valve vacuum hose is the only one I know of that will do that, if your idle is above 2500 rpm, you have a major leak, like something not plugged in, like that IAT sensor in the manifold. THat was what caused my problem, because my goes in the intake, so I had to take a 14mm bolt and screw it into the IAT hole (that is where the sensor is on OBD1 cars)
Yeah I already took everything back off. I'm going to take off some of the left over residue left over from the old IM gasket and I hope that helps. Also going to try and reconnect all the hoses right maybe I connect them wrong the first time.

I think he's right.

well, think about this- when you take the vac hose off of the FPR, what happens to the idle? it goes up...ALOT. and that is with a fuel pressure jump which will actually keep the high idle lower than it would w/o a FP jump
well, if you let loose even more vacuum than that atop not having a fuel pressure jump, it'll go even higher!
unfort, when you replace the IM gasket, you have to remove every last bit of old gasket. you can use gasket remover spray, just make sure you stuff the ports first with a small shop rag (NOT PAPER TOWELS!)
torque to spec and in sequence.
BTW, you swapped the throttle rotor to something other than a GSR unit, correct?

Well got it running finally. It idles fine now. But a coolant line freaking broke or something because my car is leaking a lot of coolant and for some reason my heat isn't working either now. When I put the heat on it just blows cool air instead of warm/hot air.
