Default Is my headgasket blown? (Small Vid Inside)

Hey i'm still not too sure if I have blown my headgasket.

My car overheats once every say 2 months randomly, I turn the heater to full and then it doesn’t do it again. I think its a faulty fan switch so I’ve jumped the connector and fan runs permanently. Other then that when i’m driving on the freeway or in traffic the temp gauge shows under half way.

No apparent loss of water.

No foam under the oil cap.

No visible oil in radiator. There's a little bit of black crap on the radiator cap (similar to that black residue you find in your overflow bottle)

Car seems to run quite strong.

When i turned the car on water didn't fly out but it started rising. But however here is what I found when I took the radiator cap off and let the car idle at normal operating temperature. I just added a bit more water to the radiator so you can see. The bubbles come in batches, its not really constant. Then there’s this big burst of bubbles and the water drops down (you can see this in the vid). Then when i give it revs, the water really flys out

Do I have a blow headgasket? Or is the water squirting out when I rev it just the waterpump?

Here's the vid

I’m scared

not blown....

the small bubbles that you are seeing are just small air pockets that you make when you add anti-freeze or water to your coolant...

the large gulp that you see (coolant dissappearing) is your thermostat opening up and allowing the coolant flow through it's system...

when you rev your engine you are increasing your coolant pressure, when you increase pressure you increase flow, when you increase flow you increase volume, when you increase volume you pressurize your coolant system....since you don't have the coolant system sealed (radiator cap installed) it will spray everywhere when the revs are up....

your problem might be your water pump or your thermostat....most likely thermostat...

good luck

Ok thanks... its really pissing me off.

I've replaced the thermostat recently with a new one.

Well this is what happened tonight. I wanted to test the car so i gave my car a good beating, reving to redline for a few consecutive runs. Then i saw the dreaded temp gauge rise up sorta going to 3/4 full then stayed there. I was like holy **** so i turned my heater on full and it went down. Went and checked under the bonnet and to my suprise the top and bottom radiator hose was relatively cool (i know usually the top would be hotter than the bottom) and also the toptank seemed cool.

WTF is my problem man???

Should i do a compression test?

Can other people watch that small video and tell me what they think?

Cheers

**** im gonna take out the thermostat to eliminate that as a problem. I'll do a compression test in the next couple of days. Hope its just another faulty thermostat. Waterpump doesn't leak

So after watching the video, does it look 100% like its not the headgasket? Those bubbles and the water gushing out when i rev it are what is concerning me.

I tried to qoute "could be your radiator" but it didn't work...so here is my ghetto quote..."could be your radiator"

strongly aggree with you...especially since the hoses are cool to touch...

you have replaced the thermostat...removing it would definately strike it from the potential problems...

if the problem persists after you remove the thermostat....take your radiator to the local radiator shop and have them clean it out and check it for plugs or leaks...if that checks out, the only other thing left would be you water pump...

Thanks a lot man. I guess thats sounds like the way to go. I guess a faulty waterpump is better than a blown headgasket.

Can a faulty radiator cap lead to this also?

Anyone got second opinions?

just take thermostat out try it like that, then if its not fixed get radiator flushed. Make sure you always run 50/50 cuz pure h20 will build up corrosion in the fins on the radiator.

fauly radiator cap, no...but a faulty radiator tank, yes...the radiator shop will be able to tell the problems with your radiator...

good luck!!

It's not mine, its the honda club of new zealand. I think they only let local people visit and ones with special permission because we simply cant afford the bandwith for international users. Sux ay? Well i cant do anytnig about it because im not admin.

Back to the topic and i did a compression test today:
Numbers were:
#1 - 245
#2 - 240
#3 - 240
#4 - 235

The numbers look quite good. Although i have been told you cannot conclusively rule out the headgasket from a compression test. Well at least i know my motors not too bad of a shape.

HAVE YOUR RADIATOR CLEANED OUT AT A RADIATOR SHOP...REMOVE YOUR THERMOSTAT...THE ONLY THING LEFT AFTER THOSE TWO COMPONENTS ARE RULED OUT IT YOUR WATER PUMP...YOUR HEADGASKET IS FINE...

Put the thermostat in a boiling pot of water....if it opens its working. Doesnt open, doesnt work.

Could rule out if you have a faulty T-stat.
