My buddy needs some advice/help, whatever u want to call it..
My buddy, just put an ACT extreme clutch into his GSR himself. The car sat for about 4 months while he was doing this (hes a busy guy). Today was the first day he drove the car. He filled up with some 92 octane gas, put some fuel injector cleaner in and now the exhaust is smoking like a pot head! It also makes a really loud whinning noise in 2nd and 3rd gear, its kinda sounds like a JRSC but not. It also take about 5 tries to get it into reverse. The only mods to his engine are and short ram intake. What could be wrong with the car? Why is it smoking so much. Oh ya.. he also advanced the timing, so it now idles at 1200rpm. Is that good ro bad? Any help will be very much appreciated!
The whining noise is probably the tranny getting warmed up all over again. Mine did that for the first bit after it had been sitting for a while. My car also doesn't like reverse. Try putting it into 2nd first and then reverse, or let the car roll a little (forwards or back, it doesn't matter), then try again. Reverse has no synchros, so it's harder.
The smoking... well, it's been sitting for so long. What do you expect?!? I certainly wouldn't be advancing the timing if he just got it running, though. Let it get used to itself first.
The whining might also be due to a bad bearing. Did he replace the easy stuff, like the throwout bearing, when he did his clutch?

I believe the smoke is also coming from the fuel injection cleaner. When I did my fuel injection cleaner, I had a foul smell and smoke come out also.
