Default Muffler for a Test Pipe???

Hello everyone,
just thought of an idea..
what if instead of running a regular test pipe which sounds like a "bumble bee" -you run a universal muffler in place of the catalyst..? exhaust will flow right through (if you buy the right muffler) and it would act like a second resonator or a first resonator if your running a stright pipe! -which will soften the sound.. instead of that raspy fried rice sound! and if your using a JDM 2.5 inch collector, you can get a muffler with a 2.25 inlet and 2.5 outlet -then flip it around and still use 2.25 piping -"perfect for NA"...

flame away! its just a thought.. i wanna hear what you guys have to say anyways...

Personally I hate aftermarket mufflers, just about all of them.... I like stock or piping back... I just dropped a GSR into my friend's EG 2 weekends ago... He just had the normal stuff CTR cam, JDM ITR header, etc... He had it piped the other day with an aftermarket catalytic converter and 2.5" piping all the way back over the rear arm to no muffler... The shop wouldn't do it without the catalytic converter like we wanted and the damn thing doesn't even slow down the flow like a stock one does... My other friend's car couldn't even pass DEQ with his Catco... It hallows out at around 3000 but there is nothing you can do about it... Your idea may work but if it makes it sound like a muffler then i don't think i would like it.... I like the sound of a stock ITR but it's VTEC also doesn't sound like a GSR with 2.5" piping and no muffler hehe ..... Latez

JDMspecEG6,
your a cool guy -you always seem to help me out. thanks!
-sorry, i dont think i was clear with what i said. what i meant was to run BOTH mufflers one in the rear and another one in place of the cat to help suspress that loud raspy noise of the straight pipe with a rear muffler (no cat, no resonator)... and in times of need, replace the test pipe with a cat.
Peace!

So you want to use two mufflers? Don't one hurt perfomance enough?

It might be really quiet though. Anyone has hookup with a muffler shop and want to try this out? Or has this been done before?

You can use a resonator or small muffler if you can find one that will fit.

Check out this site, E30M3 with muffler in place of a cat. He designed it so he can interchange them whenever he wants. Pretty slick.

I think there are places that sell resonated test pipes which is basically a round muffler used in place of a cat. I think http://www.testpipes.com sells them.
