Default MSD Sport Compact Ignition.

I want to buy an SCI for my B16. First, do I need the blaster coil and the distributor or can I simply have the SCI module and it work efficiently?

Second, is it really worth getting? I know it increases spark, in turn, creating better combustion. Does that increase hp?

Third, Should I get the SCI-L for the extra $100 or so? Is it worth the money to get the rev limiter, and would it work as well as the rev limiters from hondata?

Also, which application would be the best for my engine? What would optimise the setup? I will be going forced induction in the coming months. Is it good to have the SCI while being FI? Thanks for your help guys!

Yes you can install it without the cap and coil. They give you instructions for both setups.

Thank you. But would it have the same effect without them or shouldI just fork over the extra 100 or so to get the coil and cap?

I looked up this on the site ( MSD ) but they dont really say one way or the other. The box is more than 50% of the cost of a "kit". Cap Coil Box. We see alot of honda oem coils go bad at high rpm's and turbo cars seem to react well with MSD kits. My opinoin would be go for the works. Good Luck

the box is around 145-150? The cap around 50? And the coil around 50? go for it. They do work.

I posted too soon - The sci box will work well up to 10 even 12 lbs of boost, the box with the limiter would only be good for a set up that you wanted t drop you limiter below the factory set one in the ecu. So not used alot at our shop. We did how ever use anothe one this past week that was crazy - built in rev limiter for burn out, basic two step set up to help build boost, and puts out almost 50% more power than the 6a / 6al. I will get the part number in the morning so you can get more info if you want. But it is alot more $ yes it is well worth it.

Msd ignition is really pointless for NA applications, they also like to munch on honda ignitors.
stock ignition is great
