motor swap
I do not need to know everything I just need to know things like which mounts to use, axles that I should have, and to I need to modify anything. Other than that I can do the swap. It is pretty straight forward. I done a swap once in my car. Now this is for my friend. So some info would be great.
As far as I know you will need B-Series axles, the 99-00 SI rear motor mount bracket and upper drivers side bracket, and you will have to add some wires but I dunno too much about the wiring.
Alright well i already typed this once so if this one ***** up I'm not gonna do it again... This one probably won't be as detailed as I'm a ****** pissed right now... First off is this B18C OBD1 or OBD2?? All this makes a difference in is the wiring... If the B18C comes with all of it's mounts and you have all from the D16Y8 then you'll only need to purchase two... They would be the driverside upper that bolts to the block and rear motor mount bracket... For the tranny upper you'll be able to use the stock Y8 mount and the same for the upper apron on the driver side... For the two front lower vibration mounts just use the ones off the B18C... I would strongly recommend Prothane motor mount inserts as the stock mounts which remain on the chassis are designed for the Y8 motor, Order for 99-2000 Si if you are interested As for the axles if the motor doesn't happen to come with any for some reason use 94-2001 Integra, Del Sol DOHC VTEC, or 99-2000 Si... They can be ABS or nonABS, it doesn't really matter... Same basic stuff for the linkage... 94-2001 Teg and 99-2000 Si, you can't use the B16A Del Sol's due to the fact that it is shorter... Again if this motor comes with linkage and axles just use them... Now for the wiring... This is why I need to know if your the B18C is OBD1 or OBD2... If it's OBD2 then just plug everything in and drop the motor in... If it's OBD1 then you'll have some problem which can be fixed fairly easily... You have two real choices here, either trade out the sensors that have different connectors or change the Y8 harnesses connectors... If this is the case you'll either need OBD1 injectors, distributor, alternator, and IAT plugs to convert the harness or just the OBD2 versions of those sensors... If it comes down to the fact that it's OBD1 and you've just got done with all those mods then you'll have to decide about the ECU... If it's an OBD1 motor then you'll most likely be getting an OBD1 ECU with it... If that's the case then you don't need to bother with swapping out the oil pump for a 96+ OBD2 one equipped with the CKFS... Just buy or make a OBD2a-OBD1 jumper and plug everything in... If you have an OBD2 ECU then you'll need a 96+ oil pump with the CKF sensor and lower timing belt gear... Lets just hope that this is an OBD2 motor, hehe... Anywayz, just lengthen any wires that need to be... I'm pretty sure you'll have to for the VTEC and VTM (VTEC pressure) due to the fact that the D series VTEC solenoid and pressure sensor are located by the #4 injector... I haven't ever done this swap with a Y8 harness but it's gotta be a lot nicer... I normally just repin and wire up the DX/CX (Y7) harness which is a little more work... Well good luck and let me know if you need anything else... Peace
hey thanks for all the info that is going to be really helpful. Now a question the drivers side up mount. The one that is on the block where the timing cover is. The one on the Factory motor the stud are wider space than the one on the B18C. So am I ordering the bracket that is for a 96 up integra or is it not the same. Also the rear mount for the tranny. Is that going to bolt up to the tranny of the B18C. Someone else told me to use the one from the Si. I not sure I guess I will have to put them side by side and see what the difference is. You also ask me if the motor is OBD1 or OBD2. The motor is a JDM 95 honda integra 1.8L DOHC VTEC B18C SiR G motor and it is OBD1. Now what is this about the crank sensor. On the 96-98 civic it is on the lower timing belt pulley. I thought that is was in the disbruator. From what I can see from the two harness. I know that I am going to have to First remove the right hand harness from the B18C. Than I am going to have to place the old harness from the factory and start plugging in. From what I can see the distribuator conector are different and I think that the alt. one was to. As far as connecting the harness to the ecu I am going to get the Skunk2 conversion harness. Well if you could answer my question that would be great. Thanks for all the info.
Well I know that for the mount and the bracket you are going to want to order them for a 99-00 civic SI, not an integra. As for the wiring you're gonna have to ask Adam (Kataku2K3) Good luck and have fun!
